Death and Decay Uncovered

•January 30, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Recently I was healing a fellow Unholy Death Knight tank in Heroic Gundrak. I’ve tanked that instance probably more than any other heroic so far, as I was really hurting for the epic tanking gloves (They dropped for me this week). I wanted to heal to change it up and actually appreciate the tanking role from a healing perspective, which happened very fast one inside the instance. The DK Unholy tank would open with Death and Decay, which is great, yet that would be the only time he would use it, to open. Absurd. As unholy, his debuffs cause more magic damage to the targets. He also had the 3 talents points in morbidity, which reduces the cool down on that spell to a flat 15 seconds (Down from 30s). I had a friend over in the room and he noticed the lack of DnD right away. He suggested that I correct the Dk, as he was having aggro problems. The first boss in H Gundrak is the serpent with an AoE poison with a cast time as well as many small snake adds. He also will encase a random player in a snake wrap, which needs to be quickly killed by your dps. I strongly recommend tanking him in the doorway that you enter from, right next to the pool of water. This way, the adds that’s spawn will all come through the feet of the tank and gives the group a way to break line of sight during the AoE poison. Well, long story short, we wipe the first attempt as no one breaks the snake wrap on the healer or tank (I forget which) and all the adds smack me in the face.

On the ghost run back…

Me: ‘You need to cast DnD more than once.’

Tank: ‘It costs too many runes’

Me: ‘OMG’      [/smashfaceintowall] ‘You have to get it into your rotation. Not many DK spells have extra threat in the tooltip, not to mention it helps for AoE. It also has a great synergy with your other Unholy talents (Ebon plague bringer, Morbidity). Etc’

Tank: ‘OK.’

And he does. He does a great for rest of the instance; dropping it when ever it’s on cool down. [/happyface]

Trust me, it’s very easy to weave DnD into your normal rotation. DnD excels when facing multiple targets as well as single targets. YES, DnD IS GREAT FOR SINGLE TARGETS AS WELL. Use it to maximize your threat. DnD is by no means mandatory, on every pull, but realize that it is mandatory to maximize your threat! DnD is a must for everyspec as well (Frost/Blood/Unholy tanking). I used to believe that you needed the three talents points spent in the tier 1 unholy talent Morbidity, yet this is not true. Once I went frost, I reluctantly had to drop it, but let me tell you… I’ve never looked back. Morbidity is a waste of the 3 talents for tanking. Trust me. I will never spec to reduce the cool down of DnD while tanking; Yet, the boost to Death Coil might help some dps specs; also the Glyph of DnD has been changed to be more dps oriented.

So to the death knight tanks that haven’t realized it yet, DnD is your threat building, AoE snaggin, friend. Use it often. Please?

Blogging In A New Direction

Attention in the room, please!

I’ve decided to change the purpose of this blog. Originally, I intended to use it for mainly guild purposes. I wanted to disburse information as well as coordinate the guild type events through the blog. BUT, it has not gone as planned. For my enjoyment, I’ve decided to use the blog to express whatever WoW info I believe is interesting and helpful to the WoW community. I read a lot of blogs and enjoy reading good ones. I also have blog envy of those well rounded and well put together blogs. They are my motivation for this! I think to my self, ‘Hey, I should do that. I could put together something nice.”       -So here I go.

I play Bummer, a DK tanking his way through WotLK, and this is my blog.

Patch Got Ya Down?

TRY THIS! , a very new, free, MMORPG that really does a great job, on par with Warcraft. By no means is this company on the same level as Blizzard, BUT they are German and since this is still in open beta you can see that they are starting with a solid foundation. I have only been in the game for mere days, yet I believe that it will be staying around for quite some time, am I might be in it. WoW has many features that others try to replicate in their own way and usually miss the mark. Runes of Magic is defiantly not in that category. The closed beta was months ago, yet the open beta has only been open since Dec 14 2008! The population of the 4 servers (4 PvE and 1 PvP) was quoted at 100,000 at one point, and more recently the population was reported at 300,000!

I’m not talking tween, I’m talking Naxx. I.P.L. entered Naxxramas 10man for the first time last night! I believe we had about 5-6 guild members show up! I will post screen shots ASAP, as I was plugging them into my rotation generously. We had a great turn out on vent, although it was very quiet, but it proved to be useful.

Guild Contest!

‘Ladies and Gentlemen,
Step-right-up and try-your-luck at
 This Weeks Guild Contest!’

 Need a friend?

That’s right, another contest. I was so happy that the last contest was actually completed I felt the need to host another! This time I have to introduce a new game type, TWISTED PAIRS! TPs are basically word scrambles that require you to  untwist word in groups of two (pairs). This means you can complete the contest without the assistance of your character! Odd, I know. Fun? Maybe. Prizes? YES! Contestants will be playing for 25 gold AND a pet cockroach! Exciting! (Ha.)

well, seems as if the guild has no pulse. But avast! I we will march on. A few of us have been running the Heroics and the small raids before Naxxramas (OS, Vault, etc) and that has went very well. VERY, and when i say very, I mean VERY SOON, we will be scheduling 10 man raid nights. So you have been warned. The message is out. Naxxramas is calling. Let the bodies hit the floor (Mob bodies, that is).

I will be communicating with everyone possible to set the best time for raids. This guild is going to be ran with the least amount of guidance possible. What does that mean? No guild meetings in game; all info and discussions of that type will happen here so you don’t waste in-game time with guild shenanigans. ^^ So please do your homework on the raids and be ready on time. We will use the in game calendar to schedule and see how it goes. Good luck out there.

This is our goal. This is what we all must aim for.
